Did you know that Roulette was invented in China and brought to Europe by traders who were trading with the Chinese? Or so some rumour claims. And likewise it seems that several early versions of a wheel and spinning ball were invented in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth century in Europe.
Roulette as you know it today first appeared at Casino Rooms in Paris towards the latter portion of the Eighteenth Century. But here the single zero was red while the double zero was black.
During the Nineteenth century in France, people began gambling at roulette with a single zero which reduced the casino’s edge. When gambling was outlawed in Germany the inventor of the single zero machine accepted an invitation to go to Monaco to establish and operate a casino.
This casino set the standards for roulette in Europe, and roulette remained exclusive to Monte Carlo until 1933.This double zero roulette wheel is sometimes called the “American Wheel” and you can play it at some American casinos. Normally these are alongside the slot machines. Likewise, the single zero wheel is called the “French Wheel”.
